The Louisiana State Exhibit Museum has been actively serving North Louisiana since opening its doors in 1939. The Museum features many permanent exhibits including 22 renowned dioramas each displaying important aspects of Louisiana culture and industry. The Museum also presents special exhibits which are available for an allotted period of time. In celebration of the Louisiana State Exhibit Museum’s 70th anniversary a special exhibit was available in Fall 2009. It was entitled "Triumph over Tragedy: The Great Depression and New Deal Era in North Louisiana."

The Louisiana State Exhibit Museum invited K-8 students to join us for this special, exciting and educational exhibit on North Louisiana in the 1930s. Students were invited to delve into the past, meet important figures, explore how people from our area lived and dressed, and participate in a tour of our 22 dioramas depicting technology, industry and agriculture in Louisiana during this important era.

Materials include:

•Educational resource packets on both Dioramas and Great Depression exhibits, including previsit materials as well as follow -up materials.  Download these materials: the Grades K-4 Guide to the Depression-era Exhibits, the Grades K-4 Guide to the Diorama Exhibits, the Grades 5-8 Guide to the Depression-era Exhibits and the Grades 5-12 Guide to the Dioramas Exhibits.
•PowerPoint presentation providing students with an overview of the 1930s in North Louisiana
